As I mentioned a week or so ago, I’ve been really struggling with increased depression and anxiety, thanks to my parent’s divorce and the breakdown of my relationship with my father. That, combined with an intense work life, has meant an increased need to recentre myself and practice mindfulness wherever possible.
This year I’ve found reading to be absolutely crucial to staying mindful despite in the chaos. Sometimes I find my mind racing at night and really struggle to get to sleep – and so I’ve turned to reading as a nightly ritual. I get all snug in my bed and allow myself at least half an hour to turn off my phone and get stuck into another world.
It’s really hard to switch off entirely, and that’s precisely what reading requires you to do. You have to stop thinking about your own life, your own problems or even your own social media feed, and just concentrate on something entirely other. For me, it really helps, and sends me off to a nice, peaceful sleep.

I am so sorry to hear you have been going through difficulties. Reading is such a great form of therapy – when my anxiety was really bad in the summer it was the main way through which I distracted myself from my thoughts and feelings! Love this list ❤
Holy moly. You sure have been busy with books. I wish I could get into that mode. I’m so tired at the end of the day that I just fall asleep to my t.v. I do have a book recommendation for you though. Not sure if you’ve read it yet, but I’m halfway through it and really enjoyed it. It’s called “When Breath Becomes Air.” It’s heartbreaking, but I’d still recommend it. 🙂

The last 2 books I read and liked were the “The girl with the dragon tattoo” series (btw, a new book is out, need to get it) and “The girl on the train” in case you haven’t watched to movie yet. Both good mystery reads. Now I’m reading the Game of Thrones series cause I’m probably the only person on the planet who doesn’t have Netflix.

Some really good books there – we share the same taste! I recently discovered brene brown and read all her books – as you do! I reccomend ‘rising strong’ following a setback. Just browsing my bookshelf for a good novel. Have you read ‘cutting for stone’ by Abraham verghese? I loved that😘 I think that I will be trying some off your list too!
